2026年9月、マラケシュからマーレム・ヒシャム・メルシャーン（Maâlem Hicham Merchane）が日本を訪れました。
ツーリズムEXPOジャパン2026への出演を中心に、東京・大阪・名古屋でのワークショップ、ラジオ出演、駐日モロッコ王国大使館への訪問、そして音楽や食を囲んださまざまな交流へ。
この10日間で目指したのは、グナワを「紹介する」ことだけではありません。
演奏を聴く人がリズムに参加し、そこから人と人との新しいつながりが生まれていくこと。
In September 2026, Maâlem Hicham Merchane travelled from Marrakech to Japan.
Beginning with Tourism EXPO Japan 2026, the journey expanded into workshops in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, a live radio appearance, a visit to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, and encounters through music, food and conversation.
The journey was about more than presenting Gnaoua. It created opportunities to participate, share the rhythm, and form new connections.

Where is “ONE” in Gnaoua?
2026年9月23日、ツーリズムEXPOの開幕を前に、東京で小さな交流の場を開きました。
大きなステージでグナワを「見せる」前に、まず少人数で輪になり、音を聴き、qraqebを手に取り、リズムを一緒に感じることから、この旅は始まりました。
この日の中心にあった問いは、
「グナワの“1”はどこにあるのか？」
拍の頭を数えるだけでは捉えにくいグナワ独特の周期を、説明だけではなく、身体を通して感じていく。Hichamと参加者が同じ輪の中に入り、音を繰り返しながら共有する時間となりました。
On September 23, before Tourism EXPO Japan opened, the journey began with a small and intimate gathering in Tokyo.
Participants sat in a circle, listened, played the qraqeb and explored Gnaoua rhythm together. At the heart of the session was a simple question:
Where is “ONE” in Gnaoua?
Rather than approaching the rhythm only through explanation, the group experienced its cycle through listening, repetition and participation.

The conversation continued beyond the session.
2026年9月24日から27日まで、東京ビッグサイトで開催されたツーリズムEXPOジャパン2026。Hichamはモロッコパビリオンに参加し、日本の来場者にグナワの音と文化を届けました。
一般公開日には、日本のミュージシャンたちも加わり、guembriとqraqebによる演奏を展開。
そこから生まれたのは、ステージを「見る」だけの時間ではありませんでした。
来場者がグナワの帽子をかぶり、qraqebを手に取り、Hichamと一緒にリズムを刻む。
モロッコの音楽を紹介する場から、その場にいる人たちが一緒に参加する場へと広がっていきました。
From September 24 to 27, Hicham joined the Morocco Pavilion at Tourism EXPO Japan 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight, bringing the sound and culture of Gnaoua directly to visitors in Japan.
During the public days, Japanese musicians joined Hicham in performances with guembri and qraqeb. But the experience soon moved beyond simply watching a performance.
Visitors put on Gnaoua caps, picked up the qraqeb and joined the rhythm themselves — transforming the pavilion from a place of presentation into a place of participation.

音楽をきっかけに、異なる文化や背景を持つ人たちが同じ場所に集まりました。
グナワは、演奏される音楽であると同時に、人と人が出会い、つながる場にもなりました。
Music brought together people from different cultures and backgrounds.
Gnaoua became not only music to perform, but a shared space for people to meet and connect.
モロッコパビリオンでは、駐日モロッコ王国大使とも交流。
音楽を通じた出会いが、モロッコと日本をつなぐ文化交流へと広がっていきました。
At the Morocco Pavilion, Hicham also met the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Japan. The encounter extended beyond music, opening a broader cultural connection between Morocco and Japan.

HichamはInterFM「Barakan Beat」に生出演。
ツーリズムEXPOのモロッコパビリオンから、今度はラジオを通じて日本のリスナーへ。
Peter Barakanさんとのトークと音楽を通じて、グナワの存在をより広い人たちに届ける機会となりました。
On September 27, Hicham appeared live on InterFM’s “Barakan Beat.”
The journey moved beyond the Morocco Pavilion and onto the airwaves, bringing Gnaoua to a wider audience in Japan through conversation and music with Peter Barakan.
2026年9月29日、大阪でグナワのワークショップを開催しました。
東京で投げかけた「グナワの“1”はどこにあるのか？」という問いを、ここではさらに身体で探っていきました。
Hichamを中心に輪になり、qraqebを手に、繰り返されるリズムを聴きながら一緒に演奏する。
楽譜や理論から入るのではなく、まず音の中に入り、周期を身体で感じる時間です。
グナワを「聴く音楽」から、自分自身がそのリズムの中に入る体験へ。
On September 29, the journey continued with a Gnaoua workshop in Osaka.
The question first explored in Tokyo — “Where is ONE in Gnaoua?” — was taken further through direct participation.
Gathered in a circle around Hicham, participants listened, played the qraqeb and experienced the repeating rhythmic cycle together. Rather than beginning with theory, the workshop began by entering the music itself and feeling its structure through the body.
Gnaoua moved from something to listen to, to something to experience from within.

ワークショップの後は、大阪の街へ。にぎやかな道頓堀から法善寺横丁まで、日本の街の日常もHichamの旅の一部になりました。
Beyond the workshop, the journey continued through the streets of Osaka — from lively Dotonbori to the quieter atmosphere of Hozenji Yokocho.
名古屋 ― 音でつながる
Nagoya — Connecting Through Rhythm
2026年9月30日、旅は名古屋へ。
東京、大阪で重ねてきたグナワのリズム体験を、名古屋でも参加者と共有しました。
Hichamのguembriを中心に、qraqeb、パーカッション、そしてそれぞれが持つ音楽経験が交わっていく。
同じリズムを繰り返しながら聴き合うことで、言葉だけでは伝えにくいグナワの周期やグルーヴが、少しずつ共有されていきました。
ここでも大切だったのは、グナワを「再現する」ことではなく、一緒に音を出しながら、そのリズムの中で出会うこと。
On September 30, the journey continued to Nagoya.
Building on the rhythmic experiences in Tokyo and Osaka, Hicham shared Gnaoua with another group of musicians and participants.
Around the sound of the guembri, qraqeb and percussion, different musical experiences began to meet. Through repetition, listening and playing together, the distinctive cycle and groove of Gnaoua gradually became a shared experience.
The aim was not simply to reproduce Gnaoua, but to meet one another inside the rhythm.

Beyond playing together — a new connection through Gnaoua in Nagoya.
演奏やワークショップの時間だけが、この旅のすべてではありませんでした。
街を歩き、日本の文化に触れ、音楽を探し、一緒に食卓を囲む。
予定されたプログラムの合間にも、さまざまな出会いと会話が生まれました。
グナワを通じて人と出会うこと。
そしてHicham自身も、日本の文化や日常に出会うこと。
その一つひとつが、この10日間の旅をつくっていきました。
The journey continued beyond performances and workshops.
Walking through the city, discovering Japanese traditions, visiting places connected to music, and sharing meals together created another kind of encounter.
While Gnaoua opened doors to new relationships in Japan, Hicham was also discovering Japan through its people, culture and everyday life.

この10日間で生まれたのは、イベントの記録だけではありません。
東京から大阪、名古屋へ。
ステージで演奏し、輪の中でリズムを共有し、ラジオで言葉を届け、食卓を囲み、街を歩く。
その一つひとつの時間から、グナワを知る人、実際に演奏に参加する人、そして次の交流へつながる人との関係が生まれました。
グナワは、モロッコから日本へ運ばれた音楽であるだけでなく、人と人が出会うための共通の場所になりました。
What emerged from these ten days was more than a record of events.
Across Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, Gnaoua moved from the stage into circles of participation, radio conversations, shared meals and everyday encounters.
Each experience created new relationships — with people discovering Gnaoua for the first time, people joining the rhythm themselves, and people opening possibilities for what may come next.
Gnaoua became more than music brought from Morocco to Japan. It became a shared space for people to meet and connect.

この旅から始まったつながりを、これからも育てていきます。
今日の出会いを、次の出会いへ。These ten days in Japan were not the end of a project.
The encounters, rhythms and conversations shared through Gnaoua became the beginning of new relationships and new possibilities.
Between Japan and Morocco, between music and culture, and between performers and participants, the connections created during this journey will continue to grow.
Today’s encounter becomes tomorrow’s connection.
